In my experience (2003 Jetta, 2007 Golf, 2012 Passat), they are great up to about 50,000 miles. Maybe 1 or 2 hiccups before that, but that's no biggie. After that, stuff just happens. I sold the Passat, and I think I'm done with VW for now. I do really love that new Golf - it's such a useful size.
